Mr. Bennett's sarcasm conveys how he firmly believes it is ridiculous for his wife to ask Jane to ride a horse instead of a carriage in the pouring rain. Mrs. Bennett desires an excuse for her daughter to stay with Mr. Bingley for a longer period of time; so, Mrs. Bennett puts Jane's romantic relationship with Mr. Bingley before Jane's health. Mr. Bennett realizes the absurdity of his wife's request and delivers a sarcastic remark.
